Taking no-man's-land does very little for Russia. Instead, there is multiple lines of defenses already.

You drag out the war, drag out the supply lines thus putting pressure on ukrainian logistics (which is having a lot of problems all war)

If Russia counter, then just put themselves in totally smashed defense lines in no-man's-land thats full of mines and booby-traps that would make rotation and resupply a headache – while allowing Ukraine to reinforce faster with the shorter supply line.

Thats just pointless.

My own estimate of Russian major offensive is still at earliest, 1 year away. Most probably 2, after the west OR ukraine is entirely offensive incapable.

Russia seemed to be stashing heavy equipments (producing new ones), training troops (extended training as compared to peace time) while focus is primarily economics and diplomacy.
