For context: Entire western Poland was previously part of Germany, thats what Putin refers to when he say its a "gift" to Poland from Stalin.
While USSR annex entire eastern Poland into USSR but for good strategic reasons:
– it pushes the "west" futher west- set up/expand buffer states of Belarus and Ukraine – Poland was non-existent essentially as a country after Germany's conquest, the awarding of Poland back into a state under USSR is also another "gift" in my opinion – they could have balkanized it back into the holy roman empire style from hundreds of tiny states. (but thats not very communist)- the awarding of German land can also be seen as punishment for Germany and compensation to Poland… of sort.
